Slst- Slip Stitch.

Hdc-  Half Double Crochet.

Fpdc- Front Post Double Crochet

Bpdc- Back Post Double Crochet

Hk- Hook

RS- Right Side

WS- Wrong Side

1 x Stylecraft Batik Swirl

Notes:

·       This head warmer  is worked  flat and joined with a seam to close.

·       Chains at the beginning of each round count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.

·       A standing half double crochet can be substituted for the beginning row chains.  I find this will give a neater finish.

·       Stitch counts appear at the end of each row.

·       Small numbers in brackets indicate corresponding photographs.

·       Photographs in most cases show the right side of the work.

·       Check your gauge for best results.

Base Section 1:

Measurement if gauge is met. Teen 12cm/4.7 inches. Adult 15cm/5.9 inches. Adult Large 18cm/7inch

Row 1: [1] RS. Ch28. Hdc into 3rd Ch from Hk.  Hdc into each Ch across. Turn. [27 Hdc]

Row 2: [2] WS. Ch2 (counts as 1Hdc). Bpdc. [Hdc into next 2 Sts, Bpdc]x8. Hdc into last St. Turn. [18Hdc, 9Bpdc]

Row 3: [3] RS. Ch2 (counts as 1Hdc). Fpdc. [Hdc into next 2 Sts, Fpdc]x8. Hdc into last St. Turn. [18Hdc, 9Fpdc]

[4] Rep rows 2-3, 8 (10, 12) times in total. 17,21, 25 rows completed.

Braid Section:

Length 25.4cm/10 inches

Row 1: [5] WS. Ch2 (counts as 1Hdc). Bpdc. [Hdc into next 2 Sts, Bpdc]x2. Hdc into next St. Turn.  Continue with these 9 Sts. [6 Hdc, 3 Bpdc]

Row 2: [6] RS. Ch2 (counts as 1Hdc). Fpdc. [Hdc into next 2 Sts, Fpdc]x2. Hdc into last St. Turn. [6 Hdc, 3 Fpdc]

[7] Rep rows 1-2  seventeen times in total [34 rows completed]. Fasten off and cut yarn.

[8] WS facing attach yarn with a Slst into the 10th St on the base.

Rep the steps for the braid section. Fasten off and cut yarn.

WS facing attach yarn with a Slst into the 19th St on the  base.

Rep the steps for the braid section. Do not fasten off. Turn. Insert a St marker.

Braiding:

[10] Left over centre (1 over 2).

[10] Right over centre (3 over 1).

[11] Right over centre (1 over 2)

Keeping the braid in place, remove the St marker and insert your hook.

Base Section 2

Measurement if gauge is met. Teen 12cm/4.7 inches. Adult 15cm/5.9 inches. Adult Large 18cm/7inch

[Bpdc, Hdc into next 2 Sts]x2.  Bpdc, Hdc into next St. [13] Hdc into 1st St of next braid section. [Bpdc, Hdc into next 2 Sts]x2 Bpd Hdc into last St. Turn. [14] [18 Hdc, 9Bpdc]

Row 2: RS. Ch2 (counts as 1Hdc). Fpdc. [Hdc into next 2 Sts, Fpdc]x9. Hdc into last St. Turn. [18 Hdc, 9 Fpdc]

Do not cut yarn. 

Fold the head warmer in half with RS facing.

Use your favourite method joining seam to join the two edges together.

I used a flat seam method.  Single crochet could be used or a tapestry needle to sew the seam closed.

Sew in any ends
